The Brush Class 31s are a long-lived type still to be seen widely around the network.

In 1993 they were very active on passenger services out of Liverpool Lime Street and the first part of this volume follows examples in various liveries on workings between Liverpool and Blackpool North as well as workings between Liverpool and Manchester Victoria during the few weeks in early 1993 when stock shortages elsewhere caused 31s to be drafted in to fill the gap.

Passenger workings on the Carnforth to Barrow line are also seen as well as some miscellaneous departmental workings on the West Coast Main Line at Winwick and at Chester.

Featuring the BR Class 37s in normal service along the North Wales coast and in various parts of North-West England in 1993.

This popular and long-lived class can be seen in serveral liveries working a variety of traffic ranging from Regional Railways' front line passenger services such as the "Irish Mancunian" and the still heavy summer Saturday workings along the North Wales coast to double-heading on the heavy ICI stone trains from the Buxton area to Northwich.

A brief look at the freight traffic at Winwick on the West Coast Main Line is also featured including a glimpse of the double headed Irvine to Burngallow china clay train.
