Britain's West Coast Main Line viewed from the driving cab of the former INTERCITY's crack express from London to Glasgow.

Part one covers the leg from Euston to Preston,scheduled to run non-stop at a maximum speed of 110mph behind a classic class 87 electric loco. The route takes us via Watford Junction, Milton Keynes, Rugby, Stafford and Crewe.

Due to a broken rail the train takes an unscheduled diversion onto the slow line for a few miles north of Watford.

Part two covers the second leg of the 401 mile journey to Glasgow Central, running via Lancaster, Carnforth, Oxenholme, Penrith, Carlisle, Lockerbie, and Carstairs. Our class 87 manages to maintain a speed of 90 mph over the legendary 1 in 75 banks up to Shap and Beattock summits - an achievement that would have been unimaginable in steam days. (DVD only)

Cab Ride 05: Euston - Liverpool May '85 (180-mins) (DVD-R)

This cab ride gives a Driver's view of the famous West Coast Main Line over its southern stretch, from Euston in London to Liverpool Lime Street via the Trent Valley cutoff and Weaver Junction. The journey took place on Thursday 30th.May 1985 which was four days before Crewe station closed for a period of seven weeks for tracklayout remodelling. The programme is therefore a record of "old" Crewe. Live commentary is provided by Inspector Peter Crawley who travelled in the cab with us.

Cab Ride 24: Crewe-Penrith Apr '89 (105-mins) (DVD-R)

This cab ride was recorded aboard 86207 "City of Lichfield" on Wednesday 24th May 1989. It is the "missing link" in our West Coast Main Line cab rides and together with Cab Ride No. 5 (Euston to Liverpool) and Cab Ride No. 20 (Preston to Glasgow) gives a. full journey over the WCML from Euston to Glasgow.

The train, the 08.45 Brighton to Glasgow and Edinburgh "Sussex Scot", ran approximately 100 minutes late due to staff difficulties further south, but ran consistently that period of time late against the timetable.

Driver Route Learning and Refresher Cab Ride: Crewe to Holyhead (180-mins) (2xDVD-R)

This 2 disc video is not just a view from the driver's cab - in fact there are probably better quality track- watching videos of that - if that's all you want! This is the actual Virgin Trains Route Learning and refresher video, made for the line. It shows you all the speed restrictiöns and warnings, all the signal numbers, all the tunnels and their lengths and all the crossings and named civil engineering features. It also has information on the routes through the major junctions. So if you want to ride both ways between Crewe and Holyhead and see things as the professional driver sees it - this is the programme to watch.

In order to make the journey fit on to 2 video discs, some ofo the sequences have been speeded up by 25%. The video was taken on historic proving runs of a Class 57 and Pendolino set but in order to cover the signalling changes made in 2005, footage from other train types has been intercut with the original footage.

Cab Ride 13: Crewe - Holyhead May ' 87 (135-mins) (DVD-R)

On 6th May 1987. just before the introduction of the new BR timetables which heralded the Sprinter takeover of Trans-Pennine services over the North Wales line, we travelled in the cab of 47476 from Crewe to Holyhead at the head of the 09:48 train. This train started from Crewe, and the locomotive and coaches formed the return service at 13:15 from Holyhead to Euston. From Crewe to Chester, John Adams accompanied us and Rod Leith, from Chester, was our Traction Inspector throughout the Journey. Vincent Williams of Holyhead depot was our driver.

This Cab Ride was recorded on Thursday 19th April 1990 and this schedule was Table 66 in BR’s Passenger Timetable.

Our Euston to Liverpool Cab Ride is the most popular in the series. This ‘ride’ is over the other parts of the WCML, the Northampton loop and the original Grand Junction line from Rugby to Birmingham. Not only does it compliment the main line run, but once again we have the knowledgeable accompaniment of the Traction Inspector Peter Crawley from Euston.

We travelled aboard Class 321 Unit No. 312 406 on the 09.52 from Euston, commencing at Wolverton, the last station before the Northampton loop leaves the main line.
