Shoeburyness to Southend Central

Southend to Fenchurch Street via Tilbury

Fenchurch Street to Grays via Dagenham

The former London Tilbury and Southend Railway is a largely self-contained network. At one end is the easternmost outpost of Shoeburyness in Essex, providing a surprisingly intensive passenger service for such a small community. At the London end, c2c becomes an intensive suburban and commuter line with trains from three

main routes converging onto just two tracks into Fenchurch Street, one of the lesser known London termini housing just four platforms.

We travel aboard the attractive class 357 Electrostar electric multiple units with their exceptionally comfortable ride, firstly from Shoeburyness to Southend Central. There, in the bay platform, we board another service for the Tilbury branch which diverges at Pitsea. This is a surprisingly scenic journey through rural marshland alongside the Thames estuary. After passing through Tilbury Town we take the single line to Upminster before running parallel to the District line towards the City of London. For the last couple of miles into the City we run alongside the Docklands Light Railway. At Fenchurch Street we board another service to see the line as far as Barking in the

opposite direction, branching off onto the original LTS route via Dagenham but terminating at Grays.

This is a unique opportunity to see the line from the driving cab at its very best, having been filmed during the glorious summer heatwave of 2009.

Intercity Norwich

Intercity Norwich

Ref: VI980D

Price:£15.00

Norwich to London Liverpool Street

With a top speed of 100 mph, the hourly INTERCITY trains normally cover the 115 miles between the capital of East Anglia and London's Liverpool Street Station in well under 2 hours.

One feature of note is the single line swing bridge built at the time of electrification to Norwich in 1987. It is thought to be the only example of an operational swing bridge in the world provided with overhead line equipment.

Our Class 86 hauled, INTERCITY express calls at Diss, Stowmarket and Ipswich.

South of Ipswich, Anglia trains are joined by those of GER, and at Colchester by Clacton services - all squeezed onto just two tracks signalled for bi-directional working. Relief comes at Shenfield where the Southend lines provide an additional pair of tracks. With freight traffic to Felixstowe and Harwich a wide variety of trains rush past.

Norfolk Branches (90-mins)

Norfolk Branches (90-mins)

Ref: VI985D

Price:£15.00

Quantity:

Norwich to Lowestoft, Gt Yarmouth to Brundall via Acle, Norwich to Cromer & Sheringham, Reedham to Gt Yarmouth via Berney Arms

Just the thought of riding on the Norfolk byways conjures up the holiday mood. The fact that the branches were filmed in typical summer sunshine undeniably adds to the feeling. The branch lines still featured traditional sempahore signals and wooden level crossing gates - opened and shut by hand. With the unique marsh landscape, the swing bridges at Reedham and Somerleyton and the long forgotten line side telephone poles and wires still in use in 1998, the railways of Norfolk offer a variety all of their own.

Stations called at include: Hoveton and Wroxham, North Walsham, Brundall and Acle.

Please Note:- The DVD includes a menu-driven option of a driver's view of the North Norfolk Railway.

Ref: VI983D

Price:£20.00

Now you can see virtually the whole of the ECML in GNER days on one DVD, complete with appropriate menus to allow you to go where you want to, when you want to. Still one of Britain's premier expresses, The Flying Scotsman completes the 393 miles from King's Cross to Edinburgh in just over four hours - an average speed of 94.3 miles an hour!

Part One includes the exit from King's Cross with the various tunnels, the infamous Welwyn bottleneck, which brings the ECML down to just two tracks, the Newark flat crossing, (the last in the UK) the Selby new line, and Stoke bank, where "Mallard" achieved the world speed record for steam traction. We even take a look inside the A4 engine now housed within the National Railway Museum at York. This first part of our journey is from Kings Cross calling only at Peterborough before arriving at York in just 1 hour and 50 minutes for the 188 miles with an average speed of 103mph!

Part Two covers the second leg from York to Edinburgh calling only at Newcastle. Highlights include: Darlington Bank Top avoiding line, the approach to Newcastle - crossing the mighty River Tyne, the notorious curve at Morpeth, the Royal Border Bridge at Berwick, the scenic coastal sections and the approach to Edinburgh Waverley. The Flying Scotsman covers this section in 2 hours 20 minutes at an average speed of 87.6mph.

Please Note: The Newcastle to Edinburgh section has been reduced by 40% for time reasons but no features or points of interest have been lost.
