Travel with us along the network of lines operated by the Jungfraubahnen, through the superb Bernese Oberland region of Switzerland, from the lakeside of Brienz to the highest railway station in Europe at Jungfraujoch.

We begin our tour of this scenic area with a visit to the holiday resort of Interlaken, before taking the BOB train to Lauterbrunnen. We make a diversion along the Schynige Platte rack railway to enjoy the superb panoramic views. On our arrival at Lauterbrunnen we change seasons and make a winter journey by funicular and mountain railway to Murren, and then board the cablecars to the Schilthorn, famous as a location in the James Bond film "On her Majesty's Secret Service". We continue our journey with the BOB from Zweilutschinen to the glacier village of Grindelwald. At this popular resort we see some of the awesome ice masses at close quarters.

In the second programme, we begin at the picturesque village of Grindelwald, before taking the WAB train to Kleine Scheidegg, passing below the north face of the Eiger. We then return to Lauterbrunnen to look at the local lace-making industry and take the WAB once more. We pause on our second ascent to visit the village of Wengen before again reaching Kleine Scheidegg station. We now join one of the modern Jungfraubahn sets to make the journey to the summit. More than three quarters of this ride takes place in a tunnel inside the Eiger and Monch mountains, and we pause to see the spectacular views from the special windows cut into the rock face. At Jungfraujoch we visit the many attractions to be found there, including the ice palace, husky rides and the breathtaking views from the Sphinx terrace.

Our journey begins at Zermatt, the mountain resort dominated by the distinctive peak of the Matterhorn. We admire the spectacular panoramic views from the top of the Gornergrat before joining the train for the ride along the scenic BVZ line to the Rhone valley. At Brig we take the opportunity to visit the Stockalper palace, before journeying along the spectacular FO line through the lush countryside of the Goms region. At Disentis, dominated by the huge Benedictine monastery, we make on end-on connection with the Rhaetian Railway whose line takes us through the majestic Rhine gorge. We leave the train to join a thrilling river-rafting expedition down the "Swiss Grand Canyori''

Before making a reversal at Chur we take the opportunity to explore the old city, capital of the region since Roman times. Our way now takes us along the impressive Albula line with its lofty viaducts and spiral tunnels. We make diversions to visit the Via Mala, the picturesque village of Bergun, and see some of the older steam and electric iocos of the RhB in action.

Our journey ends at the world-famous resort of St. Moritz, sited in the beautiful Engadine valley, a fitting conclusion to our luxurious journey across Swtzerlond.

The official DVD of the RhB. Join us for a special journey along the Rhaetian Railway's spectacular Albula Line from the city of Chur to the internationally famous resort of St.Moritz. We make the trip in a mixed passenger-goods train hauled by one of the historic Ge 6/6 "baby crocodile" locomotives which were running on a daily basis on 1989 but which now only haul special excursions.

We begin out journey at Chur, capital of the Canton of Graubunden and look around the old city before borading the train. This is the original line of the RhB and was constructed through some particularly difficult terrain, so the way passes through numerous tunnels and over some spectacular viaducts incuding the Solis and Landwasser, which are amongst the most photographed bridges in Switzerland. After Filisur the line becomes especially steep and in order to avoid rack assistance the railway builders utilised spiral tunnels and loops along the valley sides. The summit of the line is in a 5km long tunnel.

Along the way we pause to look at some of the traditional villages and join in with special celebrations held to mark the centenary of the line.

Journey's end is at the popular resort of St.Moritz, situated in the Engadine valley beside the lake which bears its name. Our run with the "crocodile" is now an archive journey and a reminder of the history of the route.

Step aboard the famous Bernina Express for the spectcular journey over the Swiss Alps from St.Moritz in Switzerland to Tirano in Italy, the highest open crossing in the whole of Europe. This wonderful line is operated by Rhaetian Railway, the largest private railway company in the country.

Before joining the train at St.Moritz, we mingle with the rich at play at some of the glamorous winter equestian events which take place each year on the thick ice covering the frozen lake. We then climb aboard our train in January to begin this magical 60km journey. The line winds its way through deep snow towards the white-capped Bernina mountain range, over which our route passes. We pause to join in on ski fun on the Diavolezza pistes, look at the Morteratsch glacier and meet some unusual railway employees.

At Alp Grum we change seasons and make a breathtaking descent towards Italy in warm summer sunshine. The line loses more that 1500 metres in height to reach Tirano and this is accomplished by several horseshoe tunnels and loops culminating in the unique spiral viaduct at Brusio. Our journey ends just over the Italian border at Tirano, with its famous 16th. century church.

Join us for a captivating journey along the magnificent SBB Gotthard Line, one of the world's premier rail routes, running north-south through the centre of Switzerland. In Gotthard North we take the ex-TEE "Gottardo" for the ride from Zurich to the Gotthard Pass. We join our train at Zurich Main Station and are soon running alongside Lakes Zurich, Zug and Lucerne. We end our journey at Goschenen, where we leave the train to look at the Gotthard Pass road and follow the old horse-drawn postcoach to the summit hospice.

Travel with us along the spectacular SBB Gotthard Line, one of the world's premier rail routes, running south-north through the Alpine chain in Switzerland. In Gotthard South we take the EC "Verdi" from Chiasso on the Italian border through Canton Ticino to the Gotthard tunnel at Airolo. Our journey begins at the southernmost tip of Switzerland, passing by the blue waters of Lake Lugano. We ride with the driver of a Rhaetian Railway Ge 6/6 I baby crocodiIe locomotive along part of the spectacular Albula Line from ReichenauoTamins to Samedan.

Until recent years the company operated a mixed passenger.goods service once a day in each direction, hauled by these vintage locos from the 1920s. In the 21st century these old ladies can only be seen hauling special excursions, so this ride made in 1989 is now an archive document.

The Rhaetian railway operates with metre gauge track, and all lines are adhesion despite some of the taxing terrain through which the routes pass. To gain height on the Albula Line the railway builders utilised spiral tunnels and loops up and down the valley between Filisur and Preda. There are spectacular viaducts at SoIls and Landwasser.

The line was opened from Chur to Thusis on the 1st July 1896, with the route from Thusis to St. Moritz coming into service in 1903. Originally trains were hauled by steam, but electric power was introduced in the Engadine in 1913 and this was so successful that the Ge 6/6 I locos were purchased for the Davos and Albula Lines.

This is an autumn journey filmed in sunny weather and the view ahead is complemented with shots of the driver in action in the historic cab.

It has been produced by the MITV team using broadcast quality equipment and stereo sound recording. The programme has English commentary.
