The Shakespeare Route - The SMJ. (60-mins) (DVD-R)

The Shakespeare Route - The SMJ. (60-mins) (DVD-R)

Ref: HP358D

Called "The Shakespeare Route" by a PR-minded boss, the Stratford-upon-Avon & Midland Junction Railway (SMJR) was a fusion of four small lines that opened from 1866 to 1891. One lost its passenger service after four months and all had closed to passengers by 1952. Today just three miles remain serving an army depot. We explore this neglected line with old documents and cine-film, "then and now" contrasts, cab rides, photos, maps and plans etc., including Army and industrial locos.
