Jingpeng Glory (57-mins) (DVD-R)

Jingpeng Glory (57-mins) (DVD-R)

Ref: AC134D

In 1995 a new railway was opened in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of Northern China. Remarkably, the line was designed to use steam operation and as the 21st Century dawned this type of motive power was still in daily use along the full length of this 943 km. route.

This programme covers operations over the spectacular Jingpeng Pass which the line ulilises to cross a mountain range approximately halfway along the route. Spectacular civil engineering features abound along this 48 km section, including .fme horseshoe curves, seven tunnels and numerous viaducts. QJ class 2-10-2s, mostly double headed, toil though a mountainous landscape on this, probably the last, remaining long-distance steam operation in the World. The sequences were taken in early 2000 when freezing temperatures ensured spectacular smoke effects!

Steam Across the World No.02 - Sumatra & West Java (44-mins) (DVD-R)

Ref: AC109D

Until the early 1980s, an amazing array of steam power could still be found in the Republic of Indonesia and this programme features the work of Geoff Monks and Ray Hammond who visited each country in time to record this remarkable scene on cine film.

This is the first of a pair of programmes covering the two principle islands of the Repubic and it begin on the rack and adhesion worked sections of the West Sumatra system operated by 0-10-0 tanks of Class E10.

We then move to West Java where turn-of-the-century 4-4-0s operating alongside more modern steam power. At the one-tome mallett capital of the World, Cibatu, we see a class CC50 2-6-6-0 on the Garut branch and a DD52 2-8-8-0 working on the main line. Within a few years of being filmed, all of these rare classes had passed into history.

Steam Across the World No.03 - Central and Eastern Java (42-mins) (DVD-R)

Steam Across the World No.03 - Central and Eastern Java (42-mins) (DVD-R)

Ref: AC110D

Until the early 1980s, an amazing array of steam power could still be found in the Republic of Indonesia and this programme features the work of Geoff Monks and Ray Hammond who visited each country in time to record this remarkable scene on cine film.

This is the second of two programmes covering Indonesia and concentrates on Central and Eastern Java. We see such oddities at 0-4-0 tender engines and the notable Manchester built Sharp Stewart 2-4-0s working the Madiun to Ponoroga branch.

Moving eastwards, more unusuall classes are seen in action such as the F10 2-12-2T and the other end of the scale, the anachronistic Surabaja Tram woth its Beyer-Peacock 0-4-0 encloded tram engine.

Features 0-4-0 tender engines on main line duty, a Manchester-built Sharp Stewart 2-4-0 on the Madiun-Ponorogo branch, unusual classes such as the F10 2-12-2Ts; plus the Surabaja Tram.
